HURON TOWNSHIP APPLEFEST
About Us
Our
Story
The first Huron Township Apple Festival (Applefest) was held in October of 1979. The fall festival was first proposed by businessman Peter J. Glaab (41 years old at the time now age 86). Pete was very proud to live in Huron Township and he admired other communities that had a strong sense of community. He came up with the idea of a fall event that would bring the community together every year. He shared his vision with other business owners and residents. The suggestion of naming the festival “Huron Township Applefest” came from local store owner Frank Viger (deceased). Frank
suggested this name because of several apple orchards that operated in Huron Township at that time, Apple Charlies, Davie’s Orchard, and Tupacz Orchard. The festival now had a name and the planning process began. Several residents and business owners became involved and the first Huron Township Apple Festival took place in October of 1979. The festival has proven to be the highlight of the year as it
continues to attract local residents and visitors from across the state.
The Applefest committee is made up of volunteers. The committee works hard to keep the festival high quality and makes improvements every year.
